Partit Demokratiku is urging the authorities to investigate former Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar over reports that he had held secret meetings with an accomplice of Melvin Theuma, the middleman in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The Sunday Times of Malta reported that Cutajar held two meetings with Edwin Brincat, known as il-Ġojja, who is a personal friend of Theuma, who was granted a presidential pardon to turn states evidence.
PD said that in light of the meetings, which happened in spite of warnings to stay away from the case, it called for Cutajar to be investigated.
“In a country that was hijacked from the top, and whose institutions were littered with yes men, a restoration of the rule of law must well and truly leave no stone unturned,” PD said.
“As those linked to the crime are allowed to jet across the world, likely wrapping up loose ends, Partit Demokratiku insists that for the public good, the noose is tightened and no eyes are closed. Justice must be done.”
