Watch: Two seriously injured in Żebbuġ fireworks factory incident

Two men were rushed to hospital after an incident at a fireworks factory in Żebbuġ.

The police told Newsbook.com.mt that two men aged 26 and 58 both resident at Żebbuġ were seriously injured in the incident. The incident happened around 3.45pm on Saturday in Wied Qirda, close to San Ġużepp fireworks factory.

The Civil Protection Department (CPD) confirmed the incident, saying that members of the Department were on site. Members of the Armed Forces Disposal Unit were also on site.

A magisterial inquiry was initiated, with Magistrate Josette Demicoli appointed as magistrate.

In a statement the Executive Committee of Soċjetà Każin San Ġużepp u Banda De Rohan said that while burning some pyrotechnic waste outside the fireworks factory, two licensed people were injured. According to their statement released on Facebook their condition is not yet known. The band club appealed to the general public to remain calm and refain from spreading incorrect information.

The fireworks factory in question exploded in 2014, however no one was hurt in the incident.
