In a post on Facebook, Said said that the Gozitans were right to feel so, and that he is considering the next step without elaborating much on what such next move could be.

Stellini resigned from MP after he failed to secure a seat at the European Parliament. He will now be returning to Brussels to take up a job he had left when he got elected as an MP. This led to an executive meeting during which the members voted on Jean Pierre Debono and Kevin Cutajar. Debono re-took a seat in the House of Representatives by a hairline.

Speaking to Newsbook.com.mt Nationalist MP Marthese Portelli said that in the snap election of 2017, she had relinquished her seat on the thirteenth district after being elected from two districts. She explained that this paved the way for Stellini’s election to parliament. The MP said that however a seat which belongs to the thirteenth district has now passed to another district, meaning that there is one less MP representing the sister island. Portelli underlined that this meant, that she, along with fellow Gozitan MPs Chris Said and Frederick Azzopardi have to work harder.

The same sentiment is shared among a number of Gozitans who took to Facebook expressing their dismay. Others claimed that they have lost their trust in the Nationalist Party, as they feel they were robbed. Among the comments posted on Facebook, some said that they are being treated as though they are second class citizens.

Others argued that those who wanted to be represented by Cutajar, should have elected him in 2017. Others did not object to the seat being taken up by Jean Pierre Debono even though he is not Gozitan.
