PD presents anti-money laundering proposals

The Democratic Party presented concrete measures against money laundering in the light of European Commissioner, Vera Jourova’s visit and Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmerman’s comments.

The DP noted the establishment of the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) and the appointment of Dr. Helga Debono Buttigieg as its head.

But according to the DP, it is important to remove all restrictions on information about the passport sales scheme, police action should be taken in the light of the FIAU reports, and the granting of the whistleblower status to Jonathan Ferris.

The Democratic Party also explained the importance of the reading and implementation of the Private Member’s Bill, submitted by, Godfrey and Marlene Farrugia on the establishment of a Parliamentary Permanent Commission to monitor the financial sector and gaming institutions.
