IGM slams TM for not inviting all newsrooms to a press coverage

The Insititute for Maltese Journalists (IGM) has filed a complaint with Transport Malta as a number of newsrooms were not invited to attend for the arrival of the Maltese couple which was boarded on a cruise liner.

The couple who were on board Colombus were repatriated before the vessel reached the United Kingdom. They had boarded the vessel in February however the cruise was subsequently aborted with the vessel ordered to make a no-stop trip to the United Kingdom.

In a letter to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Transport Malta, Joseph Bugeja, the IGM said that Transport Malta invited only One News and a presenter of a programme aired on TVM to film the arrival of the couple. The rest of the newsroom including Newsbok.com.mt were not invited.

A separate boat was allocated for the media.

The Institute for Maltese Journalists said that as an authority Transports Malta should not be selective when inviting the media for press events.

In the meantime, in reaction to this Transport Malta said that if other newsroom requested to be present, Transport Malta would have allowed them to do so.
