“Hundreds drowned since Malta impounded our ship” – SeaWatch

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

SeaWatch.org chairman Johannes Bayer, said their vessel named Sea Watch is impounded  by Maltese authorities consequently delaying rescue missions which lead to hundreds of migrant deaths.

Bayer explained that when  a ship sank near Lampedusa in 2013, all European Union heads of government offered their condolences and recalled that in the last days more than 400 people drowned and instead authorities are hampering the work of these NGOs.

The captain of the Sea Watch, Pia Klemp, said that the ship is properly registered and flying the Dutch flag and thus there is no legal basis to justify the long detention in port.
