Entrepreneur Hugo Chetcuti is reportedly in a critical condition after he was stabbed on Friday night in Paceville. Sources have confirmed with Newsbook.com.mt that a Serbian national was arrested in relation to the case.
Sources have confirmed that despite Chetcuti is in critical condition he is now stable. Chetcuti was rushed to hospital and is currently in Intensive Therapy Unit.
The incident happened around 10:30pm on Saturday night, a stabbing on a 52-year-old who is a resident in St. Julians was reported in Paceville.
The stabbing took place in an establishment in St. Rita Street corner with St. George’s Street.
The police have also confirmed that a person has been arrested. In a statement, the Police said that the alleged aggressor fled the scene and was only found in Sliema later on following a police chase from the District Police and the Rapid Intervention Unit.
The alleged aggressor disobeyed orders and also injured the police during arrest. The man who had to be tasered was armed with a knife. He was taken in for questioning after he was released from hospital.
Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is carrying out an inquiry.
Chetcuti runs a number of establishments in the area, varying from a hotel to restaurants and bars. He is also one of the most followed Maltese entrepreneurs on social media.
Last month Chetcuti visited the Ursuline sisters’ who run a Creche in Sliema. During his visit, he was impressed with the nuns’ work and wanted to help them on their projects. He is funding an extension to the on-site pool and additional umbrellas as well as air conditioners in the children’s rooms and playrooms.
