Hollywood legend goes to Valhalla

Hollywood legend, Kirk Douglas has died at the age of 103. One of his sons, actor Michael Douglas announced his father’s death in a statement that was also published on social media. The screen idol, one of Hollywood’s greats from the golden age of cinema, was known for spectacular roles such as Spartacus and The Vikings. Born of Russian Jewish immigrants, this silver screen icon held up to 40 jobs in his life prior to taking up acting as a career, all to make ends meet.

Michael Douglas and his brothers wrote that “To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in setting a standard for all of us to aspire to. But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great-grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband.”

Kirk Douglas had celebrated his 103rd birthday on the 9th of December.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, wife of Kirk’s son, Michael has paid tribute to her late father-in-law Kirk Douglas.

His sons, Michael, Joel and Peter said that their father’s life was well lived, and he has left a legacy in the film that will endure for generations to come.

He was well-known for the numerous roles he played in on stage and on the screen. The actor will always be remembered for the role he played as Einar in the film of 1958 ‘The Vikings’. Other tremendously popular films he starred in were Spartacus, Paths of Glory, Lonely are the brave, Seven days in May, The Bad and the Beautiful, and the film Champion, amongst many other films.
