Watch: “Having Napoleon Bonaparte’s letter in Malta is a big deal” – Heritage Malta

The letter by which Napoleon Bonaparte ordered General Desaix to plan the invasion of Malta in 1798 was acquired by Heritage Malta in July, during an auction by renowned auction house Sotheby’s for the sum of €60,000. spoke to Heritage Malta CEO Noel Zammit and Liam Gauci, the Maritime Museum’s senior curator, about the importance of this letter, which reveals young Bonaparte’s strategic military mind, to Maltese history.

The letter is currently exhibited in the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta. It will eventually be moved to the Maritime Museum, which is currently undergoing refurbishment.
