Vandalism at Dwejra strongly condemned by GTA

The Gozo Tourism Association has strongly condemned vandalism at Dwejra, saying that it was a shame that such irresponsible individuals carry out acts against society and the environment.

Unknown vandals have chopped trees and threw red paint over a kiosk at Dwejra.

The GTA referred to the repeated acts of vandalism at the UNESCO heritage site, saying that it was a “clear” act of vandalism and which was tarnishing the natural beauty of one of the islands’ picturesque rural areas.

Dwejra is one of the main tourist resorts on Gozo, thus visited by thousands of visitors each year, who enjoy visiting the pristine surroundings of this unique touristic spot, the association said.

The association deplored the acts saying it damages Gozo’s touristic products.

The GTA has called on the enforcement authorities to step up their work and ensure that such sites are protected. It also called for an investigation and urged anyone who has information about the incident to contact the police.

The Gozo Tourism Association called on the competent Authorities to step up measures and with the collaboration of the San Lawrenz local council safeguard and protect Dwejra which is an important tourist spot on Gozo.
