Graziella Galea cleared by the NAO; amid several shortcomings

An investigation conducted by the National Audit Office has freed former St. Paul’s Bay’s mayor Graziella Galea and concluded that she did not use her influence to get any advantage for her personal gain.

The NAO was asked to analyze the Governing Board’s conclusions on allegations that former mayor was acting against the Local Councils Act and the financial regulations. These allegations were presented by the minority leader of the same locality.

This report concludes that while they agree with the panel’s findings on seven claims, primarily regarding administrative failure, they disagree with the board’s decision that there was a breach of financial regulations after the former mayor did not request a mid-term audit because it was not deemed necessary.
