Grain Team places first in cookery and culinary arts competition

Grain placed first in five entries and second in four entries.

Grain’s kitchen brigade have added nine medals and four trophies from the Malta Kulinarja cookery and culinary arts competition to their list of achievements. Grain took part in nine categories in which the team placed first in five and second place in four.

The competition was held at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali by the Malta Chefs Society from the 27th to the 30th January 2020.

Mentored by head chef Victor Borg, the Grain team consisted of chefs Gabriel Caruana, Michele Sammut, Sheldon Sammut and Maeva. The Grain dream team successfully took home a GOLD medal in the Cook and Serve category, a Gold Plus Trophy in the Junior Maltese Team and Chopped Mystery Box category, a Silver Best In Class And Trophy in the Senior Traditional Maltese Dish category, a Silver Best In Class in the Pork Dishes category, and a Silver Medal in the Fish Dishes, Pork Dishes Practical Team and Gran Prix categories. Chef Sheldon Sammut was also awarded the Best Junior Competitor Overall.

Claire Zammit Xuereb, Hospitality Director claims that this is a prestigious honour for AX Hotels: “The kitchen brigade at Grain achieved a great milestone in the culinary industry and I am very proud of this accomplishment. The competition is held every two years and its aim is to showcase the latest trends and innovations in the catering industry. With over 200 leading professionals taking part in this competition, chefs battle out to win Malta’s prestigious culinary awards. Malta Kulinarija is held under the auspices of WACS – World Association of Chefs Societies, therefore, it is necessary that international judges are present to officiate the event, together with the Malta Chef’s Society.

Competitors have a focused platform to showcase their products and services to the judges throughout the four days of the event, with further networking opportunities throughout the exhibition.

Grain in Valletta is the latest addition to the AX Hotels chain.
