A property owned the Diocese of Gozo in Għajnsielem will be rented out to be used by UM’s Faculty of Dental Surgery, after an agreement was reached between the Diocese of Gozo and the Ministry of Gozo, on Friday.
In a statement, the Ministry for Gozo announced that an agreement was signed with the Faculty of Dental Surgery to open a dental training clinic on Gozo. The project will be supported through an investment by the Ministry and the University of Malta.
The dental training clinic will be equipped with the latest technology and will be used by students reading for a degree at the Faculty of Dental Surgery. Students will get both hands-on training as well as be involved in an awareness raising campaign.
The Apostolic Administrator for Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech, praised the initiative saying that it will serve better the community in Gozo, using a property which belongs to the Diocese.
Minister for Gozo, Justyne Caruana referred to a project which was carried out by the Mobile Dental Unit which had found that Gozitans did not brush their teeth frequently or effectively enough. Caruana highlighted that the community in Gozo faced a challenge in this aspect. She remarked that this project would not be beneficial only to prospective students but to the community in general.
