Gozo Bishop extends good wishes to the new Maltese Cardinal

In a short video message Bishop Anthon Teuma, who recently succeeded Cardinal-elect Mario Grech to the Diocese of Gozo, sent his good wishes and prayers on the occasion of the elevation of the new Maltese Cardinal.

Bishop Teuma said that this donation of the Cardinal’s birretta evokes the invitation which Christ extended to two apostles to help Him prepare for the Passover meal. This meal, said Bishop Teuma, which was the actual institution of the eucharist, was an important moment in the life of Christ, of the Church and of all the faithful. It is a time for communion and celebration in a community. “That the Pope asks one of our brethren to help out in this work for the community is a great honour,” said Bishop Teuma. Priests and laity feel honoured at this trust placed in him by the Pope and concluded that the new cardinal can rely on the support, moral, spiritual, and emotional, of the Maltese in his new calling.
