Prime Minister (PM) Robert Abela stated that the main aim of the Government is to alleviate poverty in Malta.

He outlined that to address the issue, one must accept that poverty is not a perception but a reality that manifests itself everywhere, including in Malta. He said this during a consultation meeting he had with the Alliance Against Poverty in Castille, in relation to the 2021 Budget.

The PM went on to say that the wage supplement and the voucher scheme were meant to help employees’ wallets. He also clarified that the wage supplement scheme is given to the employer, to be given to the employees.

Matthew Borg, representing the Alliance, presented proposals for the Budget. He said that these proposals target the poor, in order to ensure an inclusive economy. Borg outlined that the vouchers hit the nail on the head, and the wage supplement saved many jobs.

He concluded by appealing for inclusivity.
