Independent candidate and ex chairperson of Alternattiva Demokratika, Arnold Cassola, has urged the government to set up an emergency fund in order to help workers being put on unpaid leave.

In a press statement, Cassola said that this fun should also assist small business who are already facing difficulties due to coronavirus and a possible spread in Malta.

Arnold Cassola said that the setting up of this fund should be under the responsibility of Finance Minister, Edward Scicluna. He explained that the fund could be financed with part of excise duty on fuel and cigarettes.

Cassola urged the government to take action immediately as now it is the moment to help people in difficulty and the ailing economy.
