The government will pay €54.79 a day for every bed at the Downtown Hotel. This was explained by Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri following a parliamentary question by PN MP Jason Azzopardi who asked Minister Camilleri to give the details on the transfer of patients and staff form Sant Anna Residence at the Gozo General Hospital to Downtown Hotel in Rabat, Gozo.
PN MP Jason Azzopardi asked Minister Camilleri to explain who gave the go-ahead for the transfer if it was a direct order of not and how much will the government pay to make use of the Downtown Hotel.
Gozo Minister, Clint Camilleri informed the house of representatives that the Ministry for Gozo together with the Ministry for Health came to an agreement with Downtown Hotel through a negotiated procedure which was then approved by the Contracts department.
Minister Camilleri also explained that the adopted procedure is in line with similar procedures adopted during recent months in view of the present situation facing our country.
The government will pay €54.79 a day for every bed at the Downtown Hotel. According to the Gozo Minister, the price also includes the alterations needed at the hotel to accommodate the Sant Anna’s home residents, cleaning services, reception services and maintenance services too.
Last week Steward Health Care Malta announced it has completed the move of 72 elderly residents together with staff from Residenza Sant’Anna at Gozo General Hospital to the Downtown Hotel located in Rabat Gozo.
Steward Healthcare said that the hotel was made available three weeks ago through cooperation with the Ministry for Gozo in order to make space at the Gozo Hospital to cater for more COVID-19 patients and the hospital in Gozo has already made available 41 beds for COVID-19 and the vacated Sant’ Anna Residence will serve to provide another 80.
