Govt launches €1m scheme to improve irrigation across Malta and Gozo

The government has announced an investment of €1 million towards new irrigation systems across Malta and Gozo.

The funding is part of a new scheme entitled, ‘Financing of Capital Projects – Equipment for Irrigation Systems’

According to the Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici and the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis, the irrigation project is open to regional and local councils.

Parnis explained that the irrigation system would help protect soil structure and the health of plants, shrubs and flowers.

Bonnici explained that the new project would help encourage, ‘localities to be more sustainable, through initiatives which are of great benefit to our community and citizens at large. As a government we aim to be there for our citizens and to better understand their necessities, we are committed to keeping on working to better assist our society through schemes which are advantageous for current and future generations.’
