The Government seems to have completely neglected a whole host of professionals deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing global chaos, Whilst the Government is busy flashing cash at glitzy press conferences the same Government is still sticking to tax deadlines, said the Forum Professjonisti Partit Nazzjonalista, FPPN, in a statement issued on Saturday.
The Forum said that whilst the impression was given that no tax payment deadlines were applied during April this was merely an impression and indeed a number of tax payment deadlines needed to be respected.
At such a critical time, where professionals are struggling to make ends meet due to a severe loss of professional fee income, the Government not only did not deem it fit to help such professionals with fee supplements but saw absolutely no reason to defer the tax payments on the 2019 self-employed income and the 15% tax on the 2019 rental income, due in April, said FFPN.
The PN forum said that the Government is ploughing ahead with enforcing the 30th June tax payment deadline, on self-employed income earned in 2019, totally disregarding the hardships such self-employed professionals are facing.
FPPN reiterated that the Government needs to adopt a holistic approach to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Whilst the health aspect is being tackled in a most professional manner; in large part, thanks to the dedication of medical professionals, the economic and social aspect leaves much to be desired, concluded the Forum Professjonisti Partit Nazzjonalista
