Government to provide free meningitis vaccine

A vaccine against meningitis precoccual conjugated will soon be rolled out on the national free vaccination schedule by the Health Department, according to Health Minister Chris Fearne.

Replying to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Godfrey Farrugia, the Health Minister said that such measure was aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

A four-year-old child died of meningitis earlier this month, while a newborn was admitted to intensive care after being diagnosed with meningitis.

Minister Fearne had already announced that the Health Department was in the process of placing the vaccine on the national immunization schedule program back in December 2017.
