The government published ex-Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar resignation letter on Monday.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri tabled the letter to the House of Representatives following a Parliamentary Question posed by opposition MP Karol Aquilina.
In his resignation letter, Cutajar said that notwithstanding the criticism, the Police Corps had managed to solve several critical cases during his tenure.
Minister Camilleri said that Prime Minister Robert Abela informed the public of the acceptance fo the resignation of Cutajar in a press conference on the same day of receipt. He also added that on the same day, the government made public the reforms in the recruitment process of a new Police Commissioner.
The reform in the recruitment process falls within the parameters recommended by the Venice Commission.
