Għadira turtle nest registers low success rate

66 turtle eggs at the first Għadira nest remained unhatched, Nature Trust – FEE Malta revealed in a Facebook post.

Only 17 eggs from the said nest hatched, with a success rate of 20.5%.

The nest was dug out on Friday morning in the presence of vet Dr Gruppetta and ERA officials to assess the number of eggs and success rate.

The officials recorded high humidity in the nest which resulted in mold. These conditions hindered the hatching of most of the eggs.

This year a number of loggerhead turtle nests were recorded around the island.
