Fundraiser in aid of Hospice Malta

Hospice Malta will be organising a nationwide fundraiser to sustain the vast array of services provided to their patients and their families on Friday 26th April 2019, during the TV programme, ‘Xarabank’.

Specialised equipment such as mobility equipment and respiratory are provided by Hospice according to the patients’ needs. This greatly improves the independence of the person by allowing them to live in their own home.

Hospice Malta’s primary role is to provide and promote palliative care services to patients suffering from cancer, motor-neuron disease, end-of-life cardiac, respiratory, renal and liver diseases.

“We believe that our patients are unique and valued individuals”, said Maria Gatt, Chairperson at Hospice Malta. She added that Hospice Malta’s aim is to preserve their independence, dignity and quality of life.

There are future plans which include a complex dedicated entirely to providing free comprehensive palliative care to patients. This complex will be Malta’s first facility that will significantly enhance the present palliative care services to patients in their own homes and communities, she concluded.

Currently, Hospice offers patients day-therapy activities, as well as emotional support sessions, home support, and after-hours on-call service.

Last February, Hospice Malta crowdfunded in hope to support free patient transport services.
