Education Ministry Evarist Bartolo said that funds allocated for free daily lunches and uniforms which kicked off last scholastic year, has been extended into this scholastic year. This to improve the quality of life of students facing difficulties, are at risk of poverty, or of social exclusion.
Apart from material needs, the students will also be helped when it comes to other sectors like culture and sports. The beneficiaries are students in all Primary and Secondary State Schools between three and 16 years old.
Bartolo explained that students in the scheme are benefiting from:
- daily free lunches;
- funding to buy uniforms;
- funding for necessary stationery;
- free photocopying;
- payment of educational outings organised by the school;
- payment of fees for extracurricular activities organised by SportMalta;
- and supplying reading books for young students to strengthen their love for reading, with 1,200 books being given to 580 students in vulnerable families.
