FSWS board disassociates from Alfred Grixti’s comments

The Board of the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) has issued a statement disassociating itself from the comments made by the CEO, Alfred Grixti, on Facebook in his own personal capacity, where he said that the NGOs ship, which assists migrants, should be destroyed.

Alfred Grixti was replying to a post on Facebook by Steve Borg who had contested the MEPs election in 2009 under the Labour Party’s ticket.

The FSWS board said that his comment gives a different impression of the values embraced by the Foundation.

The FSWS said it is committed to continue working and upholding the human dignity, without favours or discrimination as this is what has always been done and shall continue to do through the professional and genuine work of all the employees at the Foundation.

Following Grixti’s comments, many have called for his resignation saying it is unacceptable that the CEO of the state agency in charge of providing help to the most vulnerable, expresses his opinion that the boats carrying these refugees should be sunk.
