Teen who dragged PC Simon Schembri arraigned on string of car thefts

Liam Debono, the 17-year-old who stands charged with attempted murder of PC Simon Schembri, has been arraigned in court over a string of car thefts which took place in 2017.

Inspectors Fabian Fleri and Chantelle Casha filed charges for the thefts of two cars and a motorcycle in May and June of last year. Other charges included tampering with chassis numbers, driving a motorcycle without a license and maintaining vehicles and selling them over again. The young man was also accused of breaching a court ban on driving.

Liam Debono pleaded not guilty, but presiding Magistrate Francesco Depasquale denied him bail and ordered he be held in custody.
