Malta’s Freedom Square was today turned into an information hub as part of Europe Day celebrations.

Each of the stands set up, aimed to provide visitors to the square with information about how the European Union operates, its institutions and the services which are available to Europeans in Malta. It also provided information about the European elections taking place this month.

The event in Valletta, is understood to have been organised by MEUSAC and Europe Direct Valletta, along with Europe’s representation in Europe and Malta’s European Parliament Liason Office.

Europe Day May 9th, celebrates the peace and unity which has existed in the Union since the signing of the Schuman Declaration. The historic speech in Paris given by the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, marked the creation of a new form of political cooperation in Europe.

The Ministers for Foreign Affairs and European Affairs and Equality, Carmelo Abela and Helena Dalli, both attended the event.

Elena Grech, Head of Representation for the European Commission in Malta, spoke to Follow Up on Wednesday, ahead of Europe Day.
