A car drove at high speed into pedestrians in the German city of Trier, police say. A child is among at least 4 people killed.
Police said more than 10 people had also been injured in the terror attack. Witnesses described the car swerving, with one person saying a woman with a pram was hit. The driver, a 51-year-old from the area, has been arrested and a silver SUV seized. The prosecutor said the suspect had drunk a significant amount of alcohol.
It happened just before 2pm in a pedestrianised area of the city, around 120 miles (193km) west of Frankfurt.
Emergency services urged people to stay away from the city centre, where a large cordon was put in place.
Trier – the birthplace of Karl Marx – is on the border with Luxembourg and has a population of about 110,000.
