Former soldier carrying knife in Paceville denied bail

A 31-year old man who was a soldier in the Libyan Army under Gaddafi was denied bail after he was arrested on Saturday night. The man faces charges of carrying a large knife without a licence.

The man resides in St Paul’s Bay and pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

He was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning after being thrown out of an establishment in Paceville. He was reportedly about to assault a security guard.

The prosecution said that the accused was a former soldier in Gaddafi’s army and had knowledge of how to use such weapons saying that it was the man himself who admitted that he was trained to use such weapons.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke did not grant bail to the accused.
