The first delivery of Moderna anti-covid vaccine will arrive today said Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) gave the green light four days ago.

Hon. Fearne said this during a political event in Mellieħa. The Minister said that Malta is amongst the first countries that will be getting the Moderna vaccine.

He said that 85% of countries around the world are still without a vaccine.

Fearne explained that jabs bought from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNtech will give the possibility to jab all vulnerable people in our population till May. Herd immunity is targeted till Summer.

He explained how this week he was contacted by a Minister from a Caribbean country asking for assistance to negotiate with Pfizer-BioNtech so they receive the vaccine.

Fearne said that Malta was lucky that a leftist government is in power during this pandemic crisis. He reiterated that all decisions taken were as one team with the Prime Minister.
