Finland is the latest country to impose travel restrictions on Malta in the wake of a strong increase in Covid-19 cases, banning non-essential travel from the country.
Denmark, Germany, Greece, Iceland and Norway have also been hit by the same travel restrictions.
Finland has one of the lowest rates of Covid-19 prevalence in the EU, with 5.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants reported over the past few weeks. Only Latvia and Hungary have reported lower rates.
But Malta’s rate – 104.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants – is the second-highest in the EU, surpassed only by Spain, according to European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control figures.
Malta reported 47 cases of Covid-19 earlier today, and counts 677 active cases.
