Fine for not wearing mask reduced to €50 upon admission

Not wearing a mask while inside a retail outlet or while using public transport or the ferry as well inside the Malta International Airport will make one liable to a €100 fine.

According to the newly published legal notice on the mandatory use of medical and cloth masks regulations which came in force on Saturday any person found without a mask inside a retail outlet, traveling on public transport, traveling between Malta and Gozo including in the respective terminals and within the terminal building of the Malta International Airport, shall be liable to a fine of €100 for each and every instance when this regulation is breached.

The legal notice provides for instances when the offence is admitted and the penalty is paid before the proceedings commence before the Commissioner of Justice. In such cases, the offender will be made to pay €50 instead of €100.

On Saturday, forty new coronavirus cases were detected overnight bringing the total number of coronavirus cases found in the country since the start of the pandemic to 1,035. Of these, 351 remain active.
