February’s storm cost the Cleansing Division €40,000

The cost to manufacture and replace beach furniture destroyed in the storm in February exceeded €40,000.

The Cleansing and Maintenance Division is understood to manufactured 150 beach ladders, 80 hand rails and over 100 new brackets for waste containers.

The cost of the repairs were delivered in an address by the Parliamentary Secretary Deo Debattista, to members of the Cleansing and Maintenance Division.

It is understood that the Division is responsible for the annual maintenance of Malta and Gozo’s beach furniture and infrastructure. This is said to typically include 340 ladders, 30 decking carpets, 8 bridges and over 1,000 bins.

The Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici praised the division for their work stating that, ‘Maintenance works are carried out all year-round, as seven employees are constantly manufacturing and maintaining these facilities which are removed for their yearly upkeep during the non-summer months.’
