“Feasts should be considered intangible world heritage” – PD

Partit Demokratiku (PD) has pointed out that a selection board failed to accept a recommendation to consider Maltese feasts as intangible world items by UNESCO.

Although Partit Demokratiku welcomes the initiatives taken up by the Ministry of Culture to apply to UNESCO to name Maltese folk singing (għana), traditional Maltese bread, and the Maltese ftira as intangible world heritage, the party insisted that the festa also forms an integral part of Maltese culture.

It claimed that if the foreign experts do not appreciate the feasts’ socio-cultural heritage, the selection board was obliged to consult the preceding committee appointed by the Ministry.
