Fear sparked amongst Europeans after collapse of Genoa bridge

The fall of Morandi bridge in Genoa has sparked concern about the bridges’ condition around Europe, including Bulgaria, Malta, Germany and France.

There are around 211 bridges in Bulgaria which require reconstruction, especially those built in the last 40 years. The Bulgarian government has stated that it is of utmost importance to ensure the safety of the bridges even if it means loaning the money.

The French government is responsible for 12.000 bridges and a third of these require repairs. 840 of these bridges would result in the closing off of traffic.

Newsbook.com.mt has inquired the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Transport Malta on the state of the bridges in Malta.
