An extensive electric power cut has hit all of Malta and Gozo on Monday.
Enemalta has just stated that preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the power cut to be a fault on the interconnector cable between Malta and Sicily.
Power supply is back to normal at Mater Dei Hospital, parts of Valletta, Safi, B’Bugia, Tarxien, Żabbar, Żurrieq, Xgħajra, Għaxaq, Żejtun and Mqabba.
Meanwhile, Vodafone has also advised that their services might be negatively effected from the power cut.

Earlier on Monday, the energy provider stated that their technicians are still examining what causes the cut in the power supply.

Newsbook.com.mt asked a representative for Enemalta as to why no explanation was given in relation to the provision of electricity and if the Interconnector was needed given the malfunctioning of the powerstations. The spokesman merely said that later on during the day, Enemalta will communicate with the media.
According to the Enemalta website, scheduled power cuts were scheduled to cater for planned network maintenance in Birkirkara, Balzan, Safi, Swieqi, Naxxar and Għarb.
