European Week of Sport launched – Jake Vella’s example of endurance

Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima praised 8-year old Jake Vella who despite his rare medical condition still practices endurance sport activities. Jake suffers from a condition where he keeps on increasing in weight notwithstanding a strict diet and a regular physical exercise.

Clifton Grima said this during a press conference marking the official inauguration of the European Week of Sports at Birżebbuġia water polo pitch. He urged everyone to participate in the sports activities organised during this week and to keep physically active.

The European Week of Sports is focusing on three themes, the community, the work place and education. Activities will include water polo, sailing and regattas organised with the collaboration of three Birżebbuġia clubs. On Tuesday SportMalta employees will participate in a 30 minutes of physical activities at the Kottonera Sports Complex to illustrate how physical exercise may be practised during break time at work. On Friday morning all schools will have a European Sports Day.

Mark Cutajar SportMalta Chief Executive is inviting the general public to the first edition of BeActive Night on Saturday 29th September at Kirkop Sports Complex.
