For the first time since 7 March no new coronavirus cases were reported in Malta over the last 24 hours on Sunday. President George Vella has welcomed the news.
In a statement the President said that while the news was encouraging, the fight was still on against the invisible enemy. He stressed on the importance of adhering to the instructions issued by the health authorities and said that it was thanks to personal sacrifices that such results could be achieved.
President Vella remarked that Malta was moving away from the humanitarian crises which neighboring countries were facing since the coronavirus pandemic broke out.
He emphasized that one should be grateful towards those in charge who took decisions in order to protect public health. He thanked all frontliners for their work and dedication.
President Vella made it clear that the fight against the coronavirus was not over and his were words of encouragement. He reminded the public that through everyone’s cooperation such results were achieved. Once this episode is over, we will work hard for our economic recovery, he said.
The president also expressed his condolences with the families who have lost a relative to the virus.
