Reliable sources close to the Labour Party have confirmed to Newsbook.com.mt that the election for a new leader in the PL will happen in two phases in January 2020.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat will not be heeding the calls made by several organisations and media to resign immediately since they deem his position to be untenable in view of the development in the current political-legal-constitutional crisis.

On the 8th January the delegates of the party will vote while on the 18th the party members will vote.

The same sources said that the party machinery has already been set in motion to reach these deadlines for the election of a new party leader. This move follows an intense 11 days of increasing pressure on Joseph Muscat to resign.
