The Simblija Care Home in Naxxar has banned visitors amid other precautionary measures after one of its residents tested positive for Covid-19.
In a letter to residents and their relatives, the care home’s general manager reported that the resident in question tested positive after admission to hospital. All staff and visitors who had been in contact with the patient have been contacted for testing.
The care home reported that while its staff were being routinely swabbed and tested as per protocol, health authorities have advised that all staff who are in contact with the residents should be re-swabbed.
Consequently, the residence has closed its doors to all visitors. The management has also segregated the Simblija Care Home from the neighbouring Hilltop Gardens for the time being, while mass will not be held at the chapel for the time being.
A barbecue which was scheduled to take place on Thursday was also cancelled.
The care home insisted that there was no cause for alarm, and assured that it had the necessary measures in place to keep the situation under control.
