EC calls on Member States to find a solution for Alan Kurdi


As 64 asylum seekers remain on board the NGO vessel Alan Kurdi, the European Commission urged Member States to find a solution to the impasse so that the migrants may disembark safely.

The European Commission’s spokesperson on migration Tove Ernst explained that following a request, the Commission has initiated contact with Member States. Ernst explained that the Commission is supporting and coordinating with those Member States which are willing to take part in the solidarity efforts.

Ernst said that the Commission is working non-stop in order to find a solution. The Commission reiterated its call for long-term durable solutions and urged for predictable arrangements concerning the disembarkation of asylum seekers.
