Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, an annual event celebrated around the world to raise awareness about and demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Every year, several activities are organised around the world. However, this year, celebrations will be ‘quieter’ than usual; this year’s celebrations are limited to people’s immediate and digital surroundings because of the coronavirus pandemic.
How can you take part in Earth Day 2020?
The Earth Day Network will fill the digital landscape with global conversations, calls to action, performances, video teach-ins and more. Every hour, the website will also issue a different ‘challenge’ that you can download.
In Malta, the Majjistral Nature and History Park is marking the day with a free one-hour long virtual sunset tour at 6.45 pm to demonstrate some of the beautiful and naturally impressive landscape in our islands. They will be sharing photos of the natural wonders found in the park, as well as information about some of the historical heritage. The tour will finish with a short live video of the sunset.
Today’s Google Doodle also celebrates World Earth Day with a cute game about bees, as well as some information about pollination.
