‘Don’t punish children or parents for things they can’t control’ – MAPSSS

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

Parents have complained that the schools have instructed them not to send their children in any uniform except the P.E. kit, according to the Maltese Association of Parents of State School Students. The association added that according to the parents, the authorised supplier of school uniforms has failed to deliver items ordered weeks before the beginning of the scholastic year.

In a statement on Monday, MAPSSS recommended to the parents to abide by a circular which was issued by the Ministry for Education on June 18, where they were told that the present uniform may be retained while parents may send the student with the tracksuit. This means that any other instructions issued by specific schools may be ignored.

Those parents whose children grew out of their school uniform were advised to seek second hand uniforms from parents of older students.

Further MAPSSS said that in case were the uniform was ordered months and weeks in advance and have still not arrived, then they should send their children to school in plain clothing which matches or is very close to the colour scheme of the respective college.

Education Minister Evarist Bartolo had explained that the circular issued by the ministry on June 18 was clear. Students may wear a tracksuit, including polo shirt, t-shirt, shorts, cap and for winter the same jacked used to date, during a reply to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Carm Mifsud Bonnici.
