The Medical Association of Malta reported near-universal compliance with the industrial action it has ordered today after the government refused its calls to ban the holding of mass events.

It said that over 95% of its members have complied, and that the only activity taking place at Mater Dei Hospital is that which has been exempted from the directives, namely accident & emergency, urgent appointments related to trauma, post op surgery and obstetrics.

Only emergency and cancer-related surgery is being carried out in operating theatres, and all doctors in health centres are seeing only emergency patients. Similar compliance was reported in Gozo.

The association concluded by stating that it “hopes that the government cancels mass events as soon as possible so that it can suspend directives and call patients for their appointments.”
