The Apostolic Administrator for Gozo Mario Grech stated that he sometimes notes excessive and needless enthusiasm even in a Christian context. He stressed that people should not get caught up in foolish things.

Mgr. Grech said this during the homily for the Nadur Feast mass in the Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul.

He stated that he will no longer be Gozo’s Bishop, reminiscing on fond memories gathered during the past 14 years that he has spent filling this role. He added that he will always remember those that thoroughly inspired him with their enthusiasm and love for God, for the Church, and for others.

Mgr. Grech is to become the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops in August. He will thus be taking on the responsibilities of Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri.

He added that he wishes that the Church he’s leaving behind only continues to grow. Mgr Grech asked those present to reflect upon what it is that they’ll be passing on to future generations: are they passing on their love for Christ? If they are, they will be leaving behind a legacy of spirituality.

Mgr Grech also mentioned the fact that adult foreigners are asking to be baptised into the Christian faith. He said that this is a truly beautiful act.
