A number of novelty lighters in the Maltese market are prohibited because they are dangerous, especially for children.
These lighters are banned from the European market, including the Maltese one, because they present a serious risk, especially for children. The European Commission prohibited them in 2006 because of their shape, their by-results, and because children could mistake them for toys and play with them, which can cause serious accidents.
The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs may take action against operators who continue to put these products on the market. Consumers are urged to return these lighters back.
