All district clinics will be closed with immediate effect, the government has announced on Friday evening.

In a statement the government said that the decision was taken following a consultation with the Health Ministry.

All day care centres are to remain closed.

The local open air markets will also be stopped from operating. The Local Government Ministry said that until further notice all hawkers except for those selling food products will be stopped from operating. A public notice will be published.

Fruit and vegetable hawkers will be allowed to operate but have to set up shop with a 20m distance between one another.

The government said that wherever possible government services will be offered online.
