Dilapidated building in Valletta to turn into 4 courtrooms & 25 offices

Justice Minister, Edward Zammit Lewis announced a €5 million project for the expansion of the law courts. During a press conference Minister Zammit Lewis said that a building behind the law courts in Strait Street Valletta will be turned into a total of 25 administrative offices and four courtrooms.

The project is expected to be completed by 2023. 

Minister Zammit Lewis said that the €5 million extension project is part of the government’s reform in Malta’s legal system. He then said that the government has not only embarked on constitutional and institutional reforms and mentioned recent inauguration of a new Attorney General’s office in South Street Valletta.

Also, the office for the State Advocate will be inaugurated in the coming weeks and works at the Law Commissioner’s office are underway.

Frank Mercieca, the director of the court services agency said that a call for applications to be submitted to the Planning Authority and then the tendering process will commence. He also said that the tendering process might time as the project concerns a historic building and restorations need to be carried out by experts.
