The Planning Authority (PA) has rejected an application for the development of a tool shed in ODZ land near Ħondoq. This was stated on the Facebook page of Qala’s Local Council, who welcomed the news.
It stated that the Council “welcomes the refusal of an application for a building on an ODZ untouched, pristine area outside Qala, which is visible even from Comino.” A building with a skylight and a parapet was proposed on the site of a pile of stones.
The Local Council added that following representations by Qala mayor Paul Buttigieg, the PA turned down the application as it ran counter to the Rural Policy and Design Guidance which seeks to protect the character, scenic and ecological value of rural areas and the Strategic Plan for the Environment and Development.
The Qala Local Council remains resolute in warding off threats to the natural environment and the community.
