The Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia has confirmed that the declaration of assets of Leader of the Opposition Adrian Delia includes details of his bank accounts.
When giving the ruling at the request of Delia himself, the Speaker said that his office had limited powers to investigate the content of these bank accounts.
Farrugia explained that his office could not verify if the bank accounts contained any money. He invited the Leader of the Opposition to refer the case to the Commissioner of Standards in Public Life, as he has ex-officio powers.
Delia made the request yesterday in reaction to an article published in a local newspaper which stated that he had failed to declare his current and savings bank accounts, notwithstanding the fact that he has a loan of €670,000.
